Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyota is Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota dichotoma var. intricata (C.Agardh) Greville.

Type locality: [Tangier] Tanger, Morocco; (De Clerck 2003: 178) Type?: (De Clerck 2003: 178) Notes: De Clerck (2003) notes that it is difficult to determine if the specimen of D. verrucosa in Herb. Sonder (MEL 537294), which was illustrated by Kützing (loc. cit.), is the original type material as it does not contain the name of the taxon in Suhr's handwriting.
