Nomenclatural note
De Clerck (2003) notes that the citation of Ulva punctata Stackhouse as a synonym, obliged Lamouroux to use the previously published name Fucus punctatus Stackhouse; he concluded that Fucus zosteroides J.V. Lamouroux should thus be interpreted as a superfluous and hence illegitimate new name, rather than as a new species. Lamouroux (1809: 42) subsequently placed F. zosteroides in synonymy with D. dichotoma. - (20 August 2006) - G.M. Guiry
