Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Cymatosira is Cymatosira lorenziana Grunow.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Synedropsis laevis (Heiden) G.R.Hasle, Medlin & E.E.Syvertsen .
