This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Porolithon onkodes (Heydrich) Foslie.

Maneveldt, G.W. & Keats, D.W. (2014). Taxonomic review based on new data of the reef-building alga Porolithon onkodes (Corallinaceae, Corallinales, Rhodophyta) along with other taxa found to be conspecific. Phytotaxa 190(1): 216-249, 67 fig., 2 tables.

Type locality: Isla del Cocos (Cocos Island, Costa Rica ca 5oN 88oW), Pacific Ocean; (Woelkerling 1998: 388) Holotype: collector not indicated; date not indicated but material forms part of the St George Expedition 1923-1924 associated with C. Crossland; BM; algal box collection no. 316 (Woelkerling 1998: 388) Notes: Holotype fragment: PC, unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym).
