Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Grateloupia is Grateloupia filicina (J.V.Lamouroux) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Eucheuma denticulatum (N.L.Burman) Collins & Hervey.

Millar, A.J.K. & Prud'homme van Reine, W.F. (2005). Marine benthic macroalgae collected by Vieillard from New Caledonia and described as new species by Kützing. Phycologia 44: 536-549.

Taxonomic note
Millar & Prud'homme van Reine (2005: 541) note that Weber-van Bosse (1928:415) reduced this species to a form of Eucheuma muricatum (S.G. Gmelin) Weber-van Bosse, forma opposita (Kützing) Weber-van Bosse. Silva et al. (1996) have shown that the earliest name for this species complex is Eucheuma denticulatum (Burman) Collins & Hervey. Millar & Prud'homme van Reine are not sure if the forma merits maintenance. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
