Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceramium is Ceramium virgatum Roth.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudoceramium tenerrimum (G.Martens) Barros-Barreto & Maggs.

Grows on Sargassum thunbergii or Corallina, in the intertidal belt (Nakamura 1965).
