The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cystoseira is Cystoseira concatenata (Linnaeus) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cystoseira compressa f. rosetta (Ercegovic) Cormaci, G.Furnari, Giaccone, B.Scammacca & Serio .

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), with leaves resembling the finely cut foliage of southerwood Artemesia abrotanum (Neal 1993).
