Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Aglaophyllum is Nitophyllum punctatum (Stackhouse) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nitophyllum ocellatum var. acuminatum (Zanardini) Zanardini.

Origin of Species Name
Participle A (Latin), acuminate, i.e. tapering gradually or abruptly from inwardly curved sides into a narrow point (Stearn 1983).
