Taxonomic note
Tsiamis et al. (2013) remark: "Originally described from Croatia (Sibenik) by Zanardini (1843) and later reported by Miliarakis (1887) from the Island of Skiathos. The taxonomic identity of the species was questioned by De Toni (1889), who cited it as a possible synonym of Valonia utricularis." - (11 May 2015) - M.D. Guiry
