Nomenclatural note
Cox (1978) showed that this taxon is conspecific with Amphipleura rutilans (Trentepohl ex Roth) Cleve [= Conferva rutilans Trentepohl ex Roth 1806], now Berkeleya rutilans (Trentepohl ex Roth) Grunow. She suggested that the name Conferva rutilans should be conserved against C. comoides since this last name has been "widely and persistently used" for a taxon not including its type, according Art. 69 of the ICBN (Stafleu et al., 1978) [now Art. 57 of McNeill et al. (2006)]. However, this proposal seems not to have been made formally to date (August 2017). - (07 September 2011)
