The type species (holotype) of the genus Surirella is Surirella striatula Turpin.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Iconella decipiens (Hustedt) D.Kapustin & Kulikovskiy.

Origin of Species Name
Participle B (Latin), deceiving (used of a species closely resembling another) (Stearn 1973).
