Nomenclatural note
Cormaci, Furnari & Alongi (2021: 109) write: "According to J. Agardh (op. cit.) that thallus was sterile. That, was confirmed by the study of the type made by Athanasiadis (1988: 30). But, accor-ing to Rodríguez-Prieto et al. (2004: 47), who studied the holotype too, the specimen is a male gametophyte. Moreover, as it can be deduced by Rodríguez-Prieto et al.'s (2004: 47 and tab. 1) data, the species was collected in different localities where it was erroneously referred to as N. dichotomum (or some of its synonyms). Finally, it should be noted that Rodríguez-Prieto et al. (op. cit.) with reference to the Berthold's 001502 specimen, at page 47 say that it is labelled Gymnophlaea dichotoma, while in tab. 1 they report it is labelled as 'N. dichotoma'. - (12 August 2021) - M.D. Guiry
