The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fragilaria is Fragilaria pectinalis (O.F.Müller) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Fragilariforma javanica (Hustedt) C.E.Wetzel, E.Morales & Ector.
