Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyota is Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota ciliolata Sonder ex Kützing.

Description
D. ciliolata affinatas, sed thallus 5-15 mm latus, cilia sparsa, ciliis inferioribus in phylla munuta spathulata evolutis.
