Description
Thallus: gelatinous, slippery, soft to turgid, 2-5 cm high, pink to rose-red; branching irregular. Main axis to 1 cm thick, irregularly lobed, in more than one plane; apices bluntly rounded. Medulla of loosely arranged longitudinal filaments (2-3 µm diam.) within mucilaginous gel. Cortical filaments radial, dichotomously branched, deeply pigmented; cells ovoid, 4-5 µm diam.; gland cells spherical, intercalary, rare,13-26 µm diam. Spermatangia spherical, 2-3 µm diam., 1-2 terminal on apical or subapical cells. Cystocarps ovoid, 78-126 µm diam.; carposporangia ovoid to spherical, tightly packed, 4-8 µm diam. Habitat
Rare: on rocks, coral rubble, or crustose corallines; to 10 m deep.
