Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Craticula importuna (Hustedt) K.Bruder & Hinz.

Type locality: Germany: Oldenburg: Forst Delmenhorst; (INA 1996) Holotype: BHN; ZU6/43 (Bruder & Medlin 2008: 326) Notes: Lectotypes: BRM: Hustedt slide N1/84 (fide R. Simonsen, 1987: 267, pl. 396: figs 21-26). The LT slide is mixed with figs 21, 22, 25 & 26 being retained in Navicula importuna, figs 23 & 24 being representative of Adlafia minuscula (Grunow) H. Lange-Bertalot.
