Type locality: Landward side of Lee Reef, 18º26'50"N, 77º13"W, St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica, Caribbean Sea; (Pueschel & Saunders 2009: 483) Holotype: CMP 1002; 14 January 1999; 1.5 m depth; US Algal Collection; 209401 (Pueschel & Saunders 2009: 483) Notes: Holotype (Figs 2-20), slides, SEM stubs, and liquid-preserved isotype deposited in US Algal Collection #209401; isotype MICH.

Adjective (Latin), woven (Stearn 1983).
General Environment
This is a marine species.
Habitat
Thalli growing on bedrock and dead coral heads, which were more abundant than living corals in the collection area, but some thalli overgrowing live corals (Pueschel & Saunders 2009: 483).
