Type Information
Type locality: "On Wet Rocks in a Cave near Dunrea, Ireland. Mr. Robert Brown." [Probably near Fort Dunree [sic], Co. Donegal, Ireland]; (Dillwyn 1809: 58) Notes: Van den Hoek (1963: 51) mentioned "Fragments of type in herb. Agardh (LD), n. 8527." Dixon (1966: 19) reported "The Agardh herbarium contains a large number of species annotated by Dillwyn or marked as having been received from him. It has not been possible to obtain any direct information as to the manner by which they were obtained or of the date on which they were received. As the elder Agardh (1820, 1822, 1824, 1828) makes frequent reference to Dillwyn specimens they were obviously received at about the same time that the specimens were sent by Dillwyn to Hornemann. In view of the association between Hornemann and the elder Agardh it is even possible that the specimens now in the Agardh herbarium were obtained from the former."

Origin of Species Name
Noun (Greek), a ball of hair or a concretion found in the stomach of the goat and other ruminants.
