The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pneophyllum amplexifrons (Harvey) Y.M.Chamberlain & R.E.Norris.

Type locality: near Fort-Dauphin (Taolanaro), Madagascar; (Silva & al. 1996: 266) Holotype: Ferlus; date not indicated; PC; unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym), includes one unnumbered slide and two paraffin blocks (Woelkerling 1998: 322-323) Notes: Holotype fragments: TRH, unnumbered, includes slides 852, 1335 and 1719.
