Type locality: Transvaal Cove, Marion Island, southern Indian Ocean (46º52'30"S; 37º52'03"E); (Hay 1986: 246) Holotype: sublittoral, rocky substrata on open coast; BOL; 32323 a-d (Hay 1986: 246, fig 1-4) Notes: Isotype: WELT AI6905 a-h (figs 5, 6).

Adjective (Latin), smooth, free from uneveness, hairs or roughness (Stearn 1983).
