The type species (holotype) of the genus Plocamium is Plocamium vulgare J.V.Lamouroux.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phacelocarpus peperocarpos (Poiret) M.J.Wynne, Ardré & P.C.Silva.

Type Information
Type locality: "les côtes de l'Ile-de-France [Mauritius] ou de Madagascar. (V. s. in herb P. Th.)"; (Poiret 1808: 384) Lectotype (Tasmania; designated by Wynne & al. 1993: 38): CN; (Wynne & al. 1993: 38) Notes: "Circumstantial evidence suggests that the provenance of Poiret's collection was Australia rather than the Indian Ocean" Wynne & al. (1993). According to Womersley (1994: 402) the type is "...probably based on Labillardiere collections from SE
Tasmania (the main region he visited within the known distribution of the species)."
