This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hydrolithon onkodes (Heydrich) Penrose & Woelkerling.

Type locality: Fundo Island, Pemba, Tanzania; (Silva & al. 1996: 239) Notes: Type: not designated (Woelkerling 1993: 101). TRH has one syntype (A27-1584).
