The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyosiphon foeniculaceus (Hudson) Greville.

Type Information
Type locality: "Habitat in rupibus maritimis in Mona Insula, Dill." [Anglesey, Wales]; (Hudson 1762: 479) Notes: Lectotype (designated by Athanasiadis 2021: 48, 756): Dillenius (1742, pl. 2: fig. 8), cited by Hudson. However, a physical type is likely to exist at OXF.

Adjective (Latin), resembling fennel.
