The type species (holotype) of the genus Anadyomene is Anadyomene flabellata J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Anadyomene stellata (Wulfen) C.Agardh.

Eponomy
Named for Robert Brown (1773-1858), British collector, botanist and microscopist.
