The type species (lectotype) of the genus Sphaerococcus is Sphaerococcus coronopifolius Stackhouse.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asterfilopsis furcellata (C.Agardh) M.S.Calderon & S.M.Boo.
