Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chlorhormidium is Hormidium velutinum Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Klebsormidium flaccidum (Kützing) P.C.Silva, Mattox & W.H.Blackwell.

Type locality: Ad vias lapideas Argentorati: A. Braun [sony road, Strasbourg, France]; (Kützing 1849: 643) Type: L; 939.67-905 (Silva, Mattox & Blackwell 1972: 643) Notes: According to Lokhorst (1996: 17), the lectotype is annotated as "Strassburg Febr. 1846". leg. A. Braun. (L sheet 939.67-905). Epitype: strain SAG 2307 designated by Mikhailyuk et al. (2015: 762) to support the lectotype above and the authentic strain of K. flaccidum that is permanently preserved in a metabolically inactive state in the SAG.

Adjective (Latin), flaccid, not able to hold up its own weight (Stearn 1983).
