The type species (holotype) of the genus Gracilariopsis is Gracilariopsis sjoestedtii (Kylin) E.Y.Dawson.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria vermiculophylla (Ohmi) Papenfuss.
