The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Titanoderma pustulatum (J.V.Lamouroux) Nägeli.

Type locality: [Monterey Bay], California, U.S.A.; (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 158) Holotype: Gibbs no. 13; vii.1907; "paa [= on] Nitophyllum ruprechtianum"; TRH; A17-1169 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 158) Notes: According to Setchell & Mason (1943: 97) Santa Catalina Island is the type locality.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), having pustules (Stearn 1973).
