Type Information
Holotype locality: Masan Bay, Korea (35.2130N and 128.2429E); (Mason et al. 2007: 803) Holotype: Fig. 1a (epitype) (Mason et al. 2007: 803) Notes: The SEM stub containing the type material from culture number 200505 will be archived with the collection of the Department of Botany, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C., USA. The corresponding isolate used to make the stub was deposited in the Provasli-Guillard National Center for Culture of Marine Phytoplankton (CCMP 2927), West Boothbay Harbor, Maine, USA. Isotypes: Fig. 1, b, d,and e (SEM stub VIMS-D315A, Smithsonian Natl. Mus. Nat. Hist.).
General Environment
This is a marine species.
Description
As in the genus. Kofoidian plate formula Po, cp, X, 4', 2a, 6", 6c, PC, 5+s, 5"', Op, and 2"". Anterior intercalary plates are diamond-shaped and nearly square. Motile stages are small, biflagellated cells 9.6 to 15.7 microns long. Biflagellated stages, including gametes, and triflagellated planozygote stages. Temporary benthic or resting cyst stages present.

Estuarine.
