Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Grateloupia is Grateloupia filicina (J.V.Lamouroux) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phyllymenia gibbesii (Harvey) Showe M.Lin, Rodríguez-Prieto, De Clerck & Guiry.

Type locality: "Sullivan's Island, Charleston, South Carolina, ... (v. v.)" [v.v. = seen living]; (Harvey 1853: 26) Type: Prof. Lewis R. Gibbes & Harvey; January 1850; on the breakwater; TCD; 0011818 (Rodríguez-Prieto & al. 2021: 85, fig. 2) Notes: "Lectotype: collected by Lewis R. Gibbs and William Henry Harvey in January, 1850, and deposited at ["Trinity College "London" - actually Dublin] (TCD0011818). The lectotype was selected by Reid Wiseman in December 1966" [but has not been formally designated in a publication?]; "Isotypes: Isotype material can be found in several herbaria, e.g. MEL685640, BM530482" (Rodríguez-Prieto et al., 2021: 85, fig. 2). Lectotype designated in Rodríguez-Prieto et al. 2022: [10].
