Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhipilia is Rhipilia tomentosa Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhipilia tomentosa Kützing.

Type locality: Barra Grande near Pernambuco, Brazil; (Gepp & Gepp 1911: 56) Type: Challenger Expedition; 10 September 1873; 30 Fathoms; BM; (Gepp & Gepp 1911: 16667) Notes: South & Skelton (2003, p. 712) incorrectly cite the type locaiity as Indonesia. Lectotype: upper specimen on the type sheet (Millar & Kraft 2001: fig. 18).
