The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cryptonemia is Cryptonemia lactuca J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dissimularia umbraticola (E.Y.Dawson) G.T.Kraft & G.W.Saunders.
