Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Caulerpa is Caulerpa prolifera (Forsskål) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulerpa lucasii Prud'homme, Draisma & G.Belton.

Type locality: "...found so far only in the outer waters of Port Arthur." [Tasmania]; (Lucas 1931: 411) Lectotype: NSW; 288774 [ex Lucas herbarium 009957] (Belton & al. 2019: 244, fig 6) Notes: Collector: Mrs Perrin & A.H.S. Lucas; Mr. E. Mayle (INA).
