Type locality: France: étang de Trappes; Bonne Mare, Rambouillet; (INA 1996) Notes: According to Pribyl et al. (2012: 237, 238), this species was described from a basin of the Paris Botanical Garden, and it was further observed in phytoplankton from several localities in France (Bourrelly 1951).

Adjective (Latin), very small, minute (Stearn 1983).
