Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Gracilariopsis is Gracilariopsis sjoestedtii (Kylin) E.Y.Dawson.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria megaspora (E.Y.Dawson) Papenfuss.
Type Information
Type locality: BahÃa San Carlos, near Ensenada San Francisco, Sonora, Mexico; (Silva & al. 1996: 181) Holotype: Dawson ,1880; May 17, 1946; Floating in a shallow, sandy lagoon; Herb. a. Hannock foundation; 4521 (Dawson 1961: 217) Notes: Distribution is only known from the type material (Silva et al. 1996).
