The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neosiphonia sertularioides (Grateloup) K.W.Nam & P.J.Kang.
