Nomenclatural note
See note in Silva et al. (1996: 740). Original proposal by Vinogradova (1969: 1354) invalid as the supposed basionym and place of publication of the basionym was not indicated directly. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Distributional note
According to Silva et al. (2022), two sequences from India identified a sG. "oxysperma" were grouped in the G. brasiliensis clade, indicating that they correspond to the same genetic species. - (10 October 2022) - G.M. Guiry
Habitat note
A common marine species, also reported from weakly brackish water and freshwater in brooks near their outfall into the sea. Also found in freshwater/softly brackish habitats (Skaloud et al. (2018: 151). - (16 March 2018) - M.D. Guiry
