The type species (holotype) of the genus Peridinium is Peridinium cinctum (O.F.Müller) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Parvodinium elpatiewskyi (Ostenfeld ) Kretschmann, Zerdoner & Gottschling.
