The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Titanoderma bermudense (Foslie & M.Howe) Woelkerling, Y.M.Chamberlain & P.C.Silva.

Type Information
Type locality: Spanish Point, Bermuda; (Silva & al. 1996: 247) Holotype: M.A.Howe no. 199; 21 June 1900; encrusting a calcareous pebble and encrusting and enclosing a coquina pebble; NY; (Woelkerling 1998: 304) Notes: On calcareous rock (Woelkerling & Campbell 1992: 18). Holotype also TRH A19-1245, Howe no. 199; includes one unnumbered slide. Holotype fragment: PC, Howe no. 199, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym).
