This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chondrophycus thuyoides (Kützing) G.Furnari.

Type Information
Type locality: Adriatic Sea; (Silva & al. 1996: 511) Lectotype: LD, Herb. Agardh; 36711 (Womersley 2003: 485) Notes: Type from Trieste, Adriatic Sea (Womersley, 2003: 485). Boisset et al. (2000: 392) note that the specimen on the right (Agardh's Herbarium no. 36711)was designated as lectotype by Yamada (1931: 193) and not the left specimen, as erroneously indicated on the label in LD.
