The type species (holotype) of the genus Diadesmis is Diadesmis confervacea Kützing.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Humidophila pantropica (Lange-Bertalot) Lowe, Kociolek, J.R.Johansen, Van de Vijver, Lange-Bertalot & Kopalová.
