The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Adlafia muscora (Kociolek & Reviers) Gerd Moser, Lange-Bertalot & Metzeltin.
