The type species (holotype) of the genus Ralfsia is Ralfsia deusta (C.Agardh) Berkeley.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudoralfsia verrucosa (Areschoug) Parente, R.L.Fletcher & G.W.Saunders.
