The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sargassum flavicans (Mertens) C.Agardh.

Type locality: Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 672) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting J. Agardh (1848b: 305) for more information on the type locality of this species.
Origin of Species Name
Participle B (Latin), becoming yellow or yellowish.
