The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kobayasiella parasubtilissima (H.Kobayasi & T.Nagumo) Lange-Bertalot.
