Type locality: Mediterranean: Villefranche; (INA 1996) Epitype: see below (epitype) BRM; (Lobban et al. 2015: 230, fig. 2) Notes: the imaged specimen (fig. 2), at 12.3 mm E and 8.1 mm S of the upper left corner of the cover glass on slide BRM ZU9/69; Bay of Stari Grad, Hvar Island, Croatia (43°10'54" N, 16°35'00" E), sample 156, Padina pavonica, collected by Ana Car, 5 Sep. 2009.

Origin of Species Name
Noun (singular possessive) (Latin), named for a person with the surname Cleve; for algae (particularly diatoms) generally, either Per Theodor Cleve (1840-1905) or Astrid Maria Cleve (1875-1968).
