Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Galaxaura is Galaxaura rugosa (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dichotomaria marginata (J.Ellis & Solander) Lamarck.

Type locality: Madagascar; (Silva & al. 1996: 108) Holotype: (Leliaert & Coppejans 2006: 17) Notes: Dawson (1953: 54) notes holotype is a specimen under the name Galaxaura marginata from E. Bornet, in the Herbarium of the University of Upsala, Sweden.
