Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chloromonas is Chloromonas reticulata (Goroschankin) Gobi.

This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Type Information
Type locality: Arizona, USA; (Matsuzaka et al. 2014: 301) Notes: Matsuzaki et al. (2014: 301) note that no authentic strain of C. hohamii exists but the vegetative morphology of strain UTEX SNO67 (from Arizona) was identical to that of C.hohamii (from Arizona), as described by Hoham et al. (1983) and Ling & Seppelt (1998).
