Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cosmarium is Cosmarium undulatum Corda ex Ralfs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Actinotaenium globosum f. minus (Boldt) Kurt Förster ex Compère.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), round like a ball, globose, spherical (Stearn 1983).
