The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neosiphonia tongatensis (Harvey ex Kützing) M.-S.Kim & I.K.Lee.
